Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from Greenhouse PR!
This Christmas we are giving the gift of light. By sending this e-card rather than posting traditional Christmas cards we are supporting the work of Renewable World, to bring clean and sustainable sources of energy to the developing world and enable people to cook food, pump clean water, power homes and schools and run small businesses.
Emily Jesshope from Renewable World shares their story and hopes for this Christmas:
When we think about celebrating Christmas, we think about what we can do for those we love. The hours spent shopping for gifts for loved ones; the extravagantly-prepared Christmas dinners we will share with our families; and the endless nights we will spend curled up in front of a festive film, with a hot cup of tea, more chocolate than we know what to do with and the heating turned up at full blast.
But it isn’t the same for people the world over.
At Christmas, it is easy to forget that not everyone can take these comforts for granted the way we do. With 1.3 billion people still living without access to reliable electricity, some families will spend this Christmas in the dark.
On Christmas Day, there will be people in Nicaragua cooking for their families using dangerous fuels like kerosene, filling their children’s eyes and lungs with lethal fumes because they have no alternative. Millions of women and girls in Nepal will spend Christmas Day in their usual routine, walking miles to collect firewood and water from places far from their rural homes. In fact millions of people living in remote, off-the-grid communities see their health, education and incomes negatively affected by their lack of access to safe, clean energy.
It doesn’t have to be this way.
Renewable World is an international charity committed to bringing safe, clean energy to people in developing nations.
We are working to break this cycle of poverty by bringing clean energy to communities in need. Our projects supply homes, schools and small local businesses with access to clean water, sustainable fuel and renewable electricity.
